Orthoptist for Children & Adults

An orthoptist is a paramedical health professional often described as the “physical therapist for the eyes.” Their primary role is to screen for, analyze, and treat motor, sensory, and functional vision disorders.
Roles and Responsibilities

Screening and Diagnosis: They perform orthoptic evaluations to assess visual acuity, visual field, intraocular pressure, and binocular vision.

Rehabilitation: They treat conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia (lazy eye), visual fatigue (asthenopia), and double vision (diplopia).

Technical examinations: They assist the ophthalmologist by performing additional tests (retinal scans, visual fields, OCT).

Prescriptions: In France, they are now authorized to conduct initial eye exams and prescribe or renew glasses and contact lenses under certain conditions.

Who is it for?

Children: For early detection of visual development disorders or vision-related learning difficulties.

Adults: For screen-related eye strain, headaches, or posture issues.

Seniors: For rehabilitation of “low vision” (age-related vision loss) or balance disorders.
