What is breast cancer?

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that develops in the breast. There are different types of breast cancer depending on the cells from which they develop. All women can be affected. In general, its presence increases with age, but it can also affect young women. It is the most common cancer, affecting almost 1 in 10 women. Breast cancer develops from cells in the mammary gland.

There are 2 main categories:

  • Non-invasive cancer, said in situ or intraductal, cancer cells have not yet left the breast channels.
  • Invasive cancer, known as infiltrating, cancer cells can eventually spread, usually through the lymph nodes in the armpit.
