Sexuality: vulvar irritation — should women be concerned?

Medical Information

Burning sensations, itching, irritation… Pain in the vaginal area, the vulva, or during sexual intercourse can significantly affect your sex life.

Irritation at the vaginal entrance may indicate vestibulodynia (vestibulitis).

Vestibulitis is an irritation of the vulva, located between the labia minora, where pain is intensified during sexual penetration. It can make sexual intercourse difficult or even impossible.

This condition is diagnosed by exclusion, once all infectious causes have been ruled out. Its management is both medical and psychosomatic.

Pain location: The pain is located in the vestibule, the mucosal area surrounding the vaginal opening, between the inner sides of the labia minora.
